He has been Managing Director at J. P. Morgan Chase and Senior Economist at the World Bank. He also held the position of General Director of Investment Banking at Banorte-Ixe, one of the largest banks in Mexico in terms of assets. Between 2016 and 2017, he served as Minister of Economy and Finance of Peru.

Martín is a lawyer graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, with more than 35 years of experience in Corporate Law and Civil Law, specialising in the area of projects. He has provided services to national and foreign industrial, service, fishing, mining and telecommunications companies.
